CHELSEA vs SOUTHAMPTON
Premier League, 2nd Oct 2021
Stamford Bridge
Hello and Good day to all,
1. Onto today's 2nd game, it is Southampton who take a trip to Stamford Bridge,
home to one of the best defensive sides of the league, Chelsea. Chelsea are the
favorites for the game but with two back-to-back defeats against City and Juventus
over the week, Southampton will be confident in securing their first win of this season
against Chelsea.
2. Pre-Game
Chelsea
As mentioned before, they come into the game after a tiring trip to Turin where they faced the Italian side Juventus and came back emptyhanded after a 1-0 loss away from home. They have an amazing record at home and would like to continue that over the weeks to come.
Southampton
On the other hand, Southampton haven’t secured a win this season, but
have defended against the top clubs exceptionally well securing a draw in 4
games out of 6. They lost their last game against Wolves 0-1.
3. Kick off, as Southampton have started the game at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea
are the favorites for the game. Chelsea as expected have started the game well with
Werner forcing a save from McCarthy. And in the 9th minute of the game, Chelsea
take the lead from a corner kick thanks to Chalobah as he heads the ball to the back
of the net. 1-0 Chelsea.
4. 15 mins into the game and Chelsea dominating the game in all aspects
creating chances and keeping the ball. Chelsea have been the better team and this
game is surely going to have many goals. And Romelo Lukaku makes it 2-0 for
Chelsea but the goal was disallowed on him being Off-side. Southampton surviving.
5. And it is the 2nd goal for Chelsea all thanks to Werner's header, but
Technology brings clarity to the game as VAR disallows the goal due to a foul from
Azpiliquetta on Walker-Peters, Southampton are still in this game.
8. It is the end of the first half with the score of 1-0 to Chelsea, the score could
have easily been 3-0 but the VAR has disallowed 2 goals to Chelsea. Southampton
have had one chance at the Chelsea goal without disturbing Mendy.
9. Second-Half kicks off with Chelsea all pumped from 2 disallowed goals and
going all guns blazing to put this game to bed as early as possible. Energy levels
from the Chelsea side have been great.
10. It is 1-1 here at Stamford bridge as Southampton convert a penalty earned
from an ex-Chelsea player Livramento, the right-back skims past Chilwell and is
taken down in the box by the Chelsea defender. James Ward-Prowse scored the
equalizer from the spot. It is 1-1.
11. Dramatic scenes here at Stamford bridge as VAR proves its worth yet again
as James Ward-Prowse gets a red card after his tackle on Thiago Silva, which was
initially a yellow but after review, it is a deserving red.
12. Southampton are down to 10-men and do not seem to be organized at all,
and Chelsea take that as an advantage and make it 2-1 at the 84th Minute thanks to
a lovely pass into the center of the box by Azpilicueta and Werner getting the better
of the keeper.
13. And Chelsea didn’t seem to stop at 2-1 as Azpilicuetta drives in another low
cross to Lukaku as hits the post. The rebound was taken by the captain who hit the
bar again and his rebound landed to the feet of Chilwell who drives a shot into the
left top corner of the goal which seemed like a great save, but the Referee gives the
goal. It is 3-1, 89 mins played.
14. The game ends at Stamford Bridge after 3 vital VAR decisions and it is
Chelsea 3 Southampton 1.
Ballistiq Review
Chelsea
They came into the game as the favorites, and rightly so took the early advantage
and created many chances that could have easily been 5-0. Against the harsh
weather, Chelsea have proven to be a force to be reckoned with as Tuchel’s side are
playing phenomenal despite their key players being injured. Azpilliqueta has
outperformed his defensive duties along with 2 great assists that secured the win for
them. Despite the win, Chelsea for matchday 8 face Brentford away who are known
to have a formidable attack on their home soil. Chelsea still have a lot of room for
improvement, with Lukaku being almost invisible in the pitch except for a certain
moments.
Southampton
Chelsea just didn’t give a clear-cut opportunity to Southampton apart from the
penalty. They have continued their misery with yet another defeat, and hopes for a
better result can only come from playing a side other than the premium clubs.
Thankfully, their next fixture is against Leeds, against whom they should finally try
and win the game. The Austrian Coach Hasenhuttl does have time to his side, so let
us all be hopeful that something comes out good for Southampton.
Moment of the match
Timo Werner’s goal to make the score 2-1 is today's Moment of the Match.
